Who loves Milo? Put your hands up! XD I was one of those kids who used to eat Milo. Yes, EAT Milo. When I was a kid, we didn't have many good chocolates around. Or, perhaps, I did not have access to good chocolate. I remember the cheapo ones that came with toys, but I also remember who they tasted like plastic. I guess I have always been a chocolate snob teehee. I have also always been on the hunt for the best hot chocolate. I've tried many, MANY hot chocolates around the world (not to sound snobbish!) but, I always say nothing beats hot Milo. (Milo should pay me for this free ad! Haha!) I suppose Milo takes me back to my childhood years, to that girl who used to eat Milo. We didn't have a lot back then but we what we had was enough to give me wonderful memories growing up. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. :) So, it should not be any surprise that I would add an element of Milo to Pip Pops menu! Please say hello to the newest member of the Pip Pops family, Milo Cupcakes!

I decided to frost these cupcakes with whipped cream sprinkled with (surprise) Milo, because it would be the best combo: Cream and Milo. :) Now I wonder how they would taste with sprinkled Cinnamon ;)

Picking up that egg beater

Hello dear friends.

It's been over a year since I last picked up an egg beater. So much has happened since. Especially with the butter hooha! Well, good thing I prefer a different brand :)

Anyway, I've been missing baking, cake decorating and of course, my Pip Pops friends. Having a day job that requires me being on-call 24/7 makes it extremely difficult to actually commit to baking. I value my friends here at Pip Pops that I would rather refer them to another baker than cancel out on them.

Tomorrow is my best friend's nephew's birthday. And she really, really, reaaaaaaaaally wants me to bake for the party. Good thing it's a public holiday tomorrow so yay! I.can.bake!

Though, I am super duper anxious! It's been a while. What if I can't bake anymore?????

Never say good bye

Dear all,

It is to my sadness that I have to say good-bye, for now.

It's been an amazing experience; how Pip Pops started, the wonderful people I've met, the sleepless nights baking and decorating cupcakes, the cake deliveries to all ends of Brunei (Muara I mean hehe), the learning experience... I have been incredibly blessed.

I suppose it's time to say goodbye, but only for now. I've been feeling guilty having turn down so many orders recently because it's been quite overwhelming with juggling work and baking.

Nonetheless, I believe that I'll see you guys again. One day. When Pip Pops has a place of its own. And we can all eat cakes everyday! :D

Apologies for the lack of update! Hehehe.. I am juggling baking and work!!! Crazy stuff but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them both and I am so blessed as I enjoy what I do. :D

Back from my vacation!

Dear all,

I am back from my vacation!!! I had the most amazing vacation ever!!! Hehehe.. so now, we're back to business! :D

As I have mentioned before I left for my break, there will be big changes around here in terms of taking orders as well as available items. This is quite important, so, please take some time to read the information below. :D

1. I am only taking orders on a weekly basis from now on.

2. Baking Days are only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. :D

3. I unfortunately am not able to take up large orders anymore boohoo.. :(

4. Fondants work available are limited to fondant letters only. :)

I do apologize for so many changes... I love baking for you and will do my best to take as many orders as I can and try to give the my best. :D

Ahhh...nothing beats a kind message from a happy customer!! :D It's been very hectic these past few days. I am either in the kitchen whipping cream, melting chocolate, battling my oven... or I'm on the road, doing deliveries to all ends of Brunei Muara. I have never been happier. :D

I wonder if this is what true passion is. I am such an emotional girl hehehe.. I would be baking, then driving off to do deliveries, the come home straight to in the kitchen and feel absolutely happy and energetic! It's so weird! Why didn't I feel that way back in Uni? Hehehe.. Why couldn't I feel happy and excited to go home from a long day at uni and hit the books again at home? Hehehe!

Anyway, I would like to thank everyone for the kind words and the support... from adding me on Facebook to buying my cakes. Everything means so much to me and I will treasure everything. Thank You to those who bought the Raspberry Cheesecake Brownies today :D I am sorry if it didn't look as pretty as the picture. I forgot to mention that the topmost layer is made out of cream and so, it was quite runny (instead of a thick, solid layer). I hope the taste compensated the looks though! :D

Remember my post about my very creative friend Lina (wh0 was and still is selling the cute crochet book)? Well, today, I bought her crochet cupcakes!!! WEEHEE!! I know, I know, I am CRAZY about anything cupcakes, handmade and homemade! There is something special about them. You can feel the effort and love and passion. Hehehe, I'm so emotional! But yes, aren't these lovely and cute? They are perfect for gifts and you don't need an occasion; they are the kind of gifts that say "I thought about you". :D

Good news for everyone is that Lina is building a blog for her crochet creations! :D

Dearest patrons and readers,

I apologize for not bringing to light that I have recently made changes to "Extra Love: flags, candles and Happy Birthday Cake Topper" by charging them. (My gratitude to 'Someone' for mentioning this on the chatbox :D)

As much as I would like to keep them free of charge, I regret that I now have to charge them. However, these items will be for Non-Profit (I do not intend to charge them to make profit) as I charge them according to the prices I get at the shops. :D

The rationale behind providing these is to give you more convenience by making Pip Pops a one-stop home bakeshop. For example, you would not need to stop by other places to get birthday candles; you can simply get them from me, hence, saving you time and parking space worries. :)

Similar for the Cupcake flags, it might not seem much to print a few flags. However, when I have to print the flags quite often, it does become very financially noticeable when I am constantly changing my ink cartridges. Yikes!! Hehehe..

I sincerely regret and apologize for having to charge these items now. Kinda embarrassed too! My dad is always against hiking up prices :S

Therefore, I can only humbly hope for your understanding and continued support. I welcome any advice and tips on handling this matter. :D

I think that Vanilla Cupcakes and Vanilla Buttercream are the friendliest, cutest, sweetest, most adorable cupcakes! They make you feel like a child without feeling foolish. In fact, the trend seems to associate cupcakes more with adults than with the kiddies. I have come to learn that my cupcake patrons are mostly Big Kids :D And I love you guys for it. :D

Cute Crochet Book

Hi Guys!!

My friend Lina is one of the most creative people I know! She once crochet me a friendship bracelet which was so old school (this was back in my uni days! hehe!) but I totally love it! It's one of my fave accessories because I think it makes me look Indie (hence, "cool" LOL!) I LOVE IT ok!! Hehehe! She can also make all these animals out of wool and she wouldn't even need a guide book! I'm still waiting for a crochet cupcake (I repeat, still waiting Lin! XP). Hehehe!

Anyway, she bought two copies of the same book last month in Singapore (why? because she forget she had already bought the book! Hi everybody!! Can't believe it's January again! I have a feeling that this is gonna be a good year for me. I pray that it will be! :D 2009 turned out to be an incredibly unexpected year for so many reasons. And Pip Pops is one of them!! :D

I am also happy to report that the Topsy Turvy Cake that I baked for my four cousins' birthday celebration plus New Year's Party had an amazing response! Everyone asked if it was a real, edible cake hehehe and nobody wanted to cut up the cake because they "sayang" hehehe... (until it was time to go home which was around 2.30 am!). So, I am proud to say that after 13 hours of feeling insecure and worried about my cake being heavily criticized, the whole family enjoyed the aesthetics and the taste of the 10 kilo cake! XD Well, it's THAT heavy. I assume it's ten kilos! hehehe!!!

Hi everyone! This is my first attempt at making a fondant covered cake (which is pretty obvious! It has so many flaws hehehe!) This is a Topsy Turvy Cake but my mom has so many embarrassing names for it (like a Bootylicious Cake HAHAHA!) It took me 13 hours to finish the cake with the help of my mother, my cousin Iyah and Aunty Salmah. Thanks you guys!! WHEW!!!

What do you guys think?

This cake is about 16 inches tall and SO VERY HEAVY!! It's a moist chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling. :D I hope I get another chance to bake this cake again! :D

As per requested by Iqa, a pippops.blogspot reader, Pip Pops is adding Sugar Cookies to the Menu! :D Thank You Iqa! To Iqa and everyone else, please keep the suggestions coming! :D

One of my earliest kitchen adventures involved baking cookies. I would bake cookies for Hari Raya, Teacher's Day or just because. I suppose I was quite proud of my cookies. I do have a funny story on a baking incident, but I can't seem to find the photos!! I shall tell you the story once I find them. :D In the meantime, I'll just show you these Sugar Cookies.

Please note that in these photos, the sugar cookies are iced with egg white as I didn't want to decorate them with Royal Icing as usual since my mother doesn't like sugar much. ( mom's my cookies' number one fan! XD)Hence, the rather frothy icing on the cookies instead of a firm, smooth one. But these photos are simply to give you an idea of Pip Pops Sugar Cookies. :D

Please also note that the Sugar Cookies for sale will be iced with royal icing instead of egg white. :D The effect will be a smoother, sweeter and firmer icing. :D

I don't exactly have a strict method as I believe in flexibility and constant contact with my patrons in order to allow for inquiries before confirmation. Nonetheless, here is a guideline which might give you an idea on how to place an order. :D

1. Orders can be made through email (pippops.mail@gmail.com), through Facebook email or text me at 8 786 168.

2. Please include
-The flavor of cupcakes or any other Pip Pops goodies
-The amount (All cupcakes come in a set of twelve unless stated)
-The date when you require the cupcakes
-Your name and address

3. Next, I will get back to you as soon as possible for confirmation. :D As simple as that! Please note that I will need at least 2 days notice :D

It's been such a hectic day (and it's only half past one!!) but I am thoroughly enjoying every bit of it! :D Baking is fun!!! But decorating is even MORE fun!!! :D I LOVEEEEeeeeeeeeee cupcake confetti! They are so cute! XD

Anyhow, I am thinking about introducing a Cupcake Party Package. What's a Cupcake Party? Well, it would be your chance to decorate your own cupcakes (with friends or family! or even by yourself :D ) without having to go through the fuss of baking the cupcakes and preparing the frosting. :D You will be provided with a bare cupcake of your choice, a frosting of your choice, some sprinkles and your own piping set! :D

Though, this is all still in my head! Hehehe.. I'd like to keep the price reasonable so I'd need to figure out how I can provide you with the piping set. Can't wait to confirm this with you guys! :D Let me know if you're interested in having a Cupcake Party! :D

Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Adha everyone! :D Long weekend again for a lot of you :D As for me, my feet are in a lot of pain from standing the whole day. That's the occupational hazard of baking. Unless you're a tall, tall, amazonian, you pretty much can't sit down when you're working in the kitchen. No, not even when decorating. :S I really need an aerial view of everything! I've been on my feet for ten hours and I'm dying to get those special doctor shoes! Hehehe! Well, just a fluffy pair of slippers would do. :D

Anyway, I am taking a break from baking on Sunday as I am having my first sleep over since... er... I can't even remember! Hahaha! That's how long it's been. I thought I was too old for sleepovers. Well, maybe I am because I can't bear the thought of leaving the comfort of my bed!! Yes, the sleepover is at my house. Hahahaha! We're planning to watch a sad movie and a nice big pizza! Yum!!! I'm afraid that my sleepover will be boring. Hahaha!

Offee Banoffee Pie

There's been a request for Banoffee Pie for quite some time now (thanks for the request!! And I'm so sorry for the delay! Hehehe) and I only managed to whip up some last Thursday. :D It was also the perfect opportunity because we had a family get together... children would be around (my number one fans! XD ) and there would actually be people (apart from myself and my parents) to eat a giant piece of Banoffee Pie. So yayyyy!!

A Banoffee Pie is essentially made up of a biscuit crust, a layer of bananas, a layer of dulce de leche (toffee or caramel are the less snooty names hehehe) and topped with freshly whipped cream, garnished with dark chocolate. YUM!!!!!!

My Banoffee Pie was a smashing success (yayyyy!!!!). Though, I was so amused when the kids requested that I NOT put bananas in. I said that it wouldn't be BANoffee Pie then since there's no banana. The response: It's alright. They are happy with just OFFEE Pie. XD Hehehe! All in all, the bananas weren't such a problem because they enjoyed the pie nevertheless. :D I was so pleased when a cousin insist she smuggle the last quarter home! LOL!! I hope you guys will enjoy my Banoffee Pie too! :D Yes, with bananas! :D

PS: I only had less than a couple of hours to prepare this pie, so please excuse the awful pictures and presentation! IT WAS A MESS! I didn't have the opportunity to take a decent picture of a slice of the pie, so you'll just be viewing messy plates!!

I can't believe it's already November!!!! Time really jets by this year for me. And Pip Pops is almost 8 months old! Woohoo! Who would've thought I'd get this far. :D Alhamdulillah... Thank you everyone for your support!

I would like to share with you a little story of how Pip Pops came to be. Truthfully, this cupcakery was never, EVER planned! It really was quite an impulsive decision, like most of the good things that have happened in my life.

About eight months ago, I was baking cupcakes for one of my best friends' birthday Ratna. You would think I made the cutest, most ambrosial cupcakes that day since it was the moment Pip Pops came to be. Unfortunately, it took me FOUR hours to finish a dozen cupcakes. I was in tears!!! The chocolate wouldn't melt properly and it kept on curdling. I had to go out and buy more and they still curdled and burnt. I was LATE for the birthday. And I was going through expensive chocolate like a chain smoker.

After four hours battling in the kitchen, yanking my hair out, almost breaking down in tears... my friend Lyds who was there to help marched me straight into the shower (to freshen up and cool down... or maybe let me cry in private! LOL!) and let her handle the situation. She managed to salvage the curdling chocolate with a little butter. Though, I was such a purist in the sense that I didn't agree with the taste.

Fortunately, the birthday girl saw past the weirdness of how the cupcakes looked. The cupcakes were, funnily enough, a success story ( maybe because of all that love incorporated into the cupcakes??) . In fact, her cousin took some home for her friends who asked whether I was selling the cupcakes!!! With a push and encouragement from my friend, I finally plucked up the courage and decided to sell cupcakes.

And the rest, they say, is history....

I had (and still have) confidence issues (will people like my baking? will I overcome my shyness in meeting new people?). But with my friend's encouragement, it was the push I needed after wanting to sell cookies and cupcakes for the past eleven years. :D

Who would've thought I'd have met so many new and wonderful people and helped in some way with celebrating birthdays and graduation?

In case you're wondering, what those white balls unceremoniously strewn about among the cupcakes, those are not Kuih Mor. Those are chocolate balls. One of the frequently asked questions (FAQ) that I get is why some of Pip Pops cupcakes or other goodies quite pricey. I appreciate the question. :D

When it comes to pricing, I believe that EVERYONE should be able to enjoy cupcakes, from those with limited budget to those who could splurge on all kinds of cupcakes and frostings. Cupcakes are wonderful and they make you happy! Thus, I try to set a ceiling on my pricing so that everyone can afford my cupcakes.

I always try my best to give you high quality, enticing and yummy cupcakes. In order to achieve this, I never compromise on the quality of ingredients. And I mean high quality, not simply good quality ingredients. As we all know, high quality ingredients are very limited and very expensive as they are usually imported products. Therefore, this affects the pricing that I place on my cupcakes.

I have tried many many times to find a solution to this. One of it was to mix high quality ingredients to "balance out" the cheaper ingredients (thus, lower quality). The result was, to my horror, funny tasting buttercream... bland chocolate cupcakes (oh it was brown alright, but there was nothing chocolatey about it!).... You get the idea. :D

There really is no such thing as compromising quality when it comes to baking or cooking. To produce the best, you must incorporate only the best. :D Insya Allah one day, when I have the benefit of economies of scale, I will be able to lower my prices.

FAQ on Fondant Pricing

Fondants or any other sugar art takes time (a LOTTTTTT), patience, steady hands and creativity. Sometimes, it takes me half an hour to complete each fondant :S And most of the time, I cry to myself and ask, what have I put myself into??? Hehehe.. There is nothing quick or easy about fondant or sugar art creations. :)

Hey everybody!!! Don't forget Halloween's this month! :D

Two Halloweens ago, I moved into my student house around Halloween and it was such a great opportunity to have a Halloween Party slash Housewarming. I suppose it is different from what we do here (Doa Selamat) but it was fun nonetheless. :D I think it was mostly fun because EVERYBODY made an effort to get dressed up properly! We had Devil Couple, Angel, Monster Cook, Ghost, Witch, Hippie, Sheep, Vampire, you name it! Every spook was in town! And we had awesome Halloween Decorations! My housemates and I even carved out a pumpkin! Good times. :D

I'd love to throw another Halloween Party but most of my friends are still at the other end of the world and it wont be as fun. BUTTT I still think I want to put up some Halloween Decor and maybe have small party with Halloween Cupcakes too! Will be posting Halloween Cupcakes samples soon! :D

Heyy guys!!!

Wow. I must be crazy to be working in this business at this time of year! Hahaha!! The smell of baking cakes... melted dark chocolate... Aaahhhhh.......... It does make you go ga-ga on an empty stomach. Teehee.. Anyway, someone has been requesting for souffles and I do apologize for its delayed addition to the menu. August has too many babies! Hehehe! I've been quite busy with cupcakes and brownies that I unintentionally have to postpone making souffles - till now!! I felt bad, especially during Puasa, not to give what my customers want.

So, right after making some Cotton Candy Cupcakes, I jumped straight to making souffles! And I am glad I did! :D I'd like everyone to know that I write down every requests and suggestions on new flavours and dishes. Truthfully, there's a massive queue! Please keep them coming and I WILL try to make them for you when the opportunity comes i.e. when I'm not too swamped with orders. :D

it's supposed to be taller, but I ran out of grease-proof paper to create a collar around the ramekin! LOL! What kind of baker runs out of grease-proof paper you ask? This one does! Hehehe!

Now, I'd like to keep my prices reasonable, hence, these Dark Chocolate Souffles will come in souffle cups instead of porcelain ramekins. However, if you feel like being posh (which is a-ok in my book! XD), please let me know early if you'd like your souffles to come in ramekins instead of aluminium pots.

This is how it should look like!

Please also note that souffles are best served as soon as it comes out of the oven. Due to the time period between baking and delivery, the souffles will deflate. Nonetheless, this will not affect the taste.

I know I announced a new pricing system for fondants but after another fondant project, I realized that fondant designing takes time... a very long time, and massive loads of effort, and often carries on into late mornings. I am happy to undertake fondant projects. But I think that setting a fixed price for unlimited fondants puts me at a great disadvantage (my poor aching back and eyebags! Hehehe!). Hence, please note that from now, the price will vary and upon quotation. But don't worry, I always aim to make Pip Pops goodies affordable for everyone! :D

As much as I'd love to offer extremely detailed designs, I am unable to as I am still green at fondant designing. I really don't want to ruin your event by producing ugly yucky looking cupcakes! Hehehe! Hence, I apologize in advance if I have to decline from accepting your order. :D

I had a request for MUFC's logo which at first I declined to do because I knew I would do such a horrible botched up job! :S Hehehe! I am always worried about how my cakes and frosting will turn out, and that's the simple part, let alone a detailed fondant work. Yikes! Hehehe!

But I am nonetheless thankful that the client insisted I do it for I learned a lot from the experience. It was a whole new world of fondant creation for me. I think I was actually better than I thought I'd be, though, that doesn't mean it was the best looking MU Devil fondant. LOL!! Thank you 98 for the opportunity. I appreciate the kind words and I hope to hear from you again. :D

Hello my lovelies!

I have been looking around for gerai-s and restaurants to carry my cupcakes. I found a gerai which agreed but suggested that I sell the cupcakes at a much lower price than the estimated $1.20 each. We agreed at $0.50 each cupcake but at a smaller size.

I would so love to venture into this but I am also worried that you guys wouldn't be happy with the size (too small?) and would rather pay the regular $1.20 price and have a regular size cupcake! Hehe! So, please please help me by taking the Poll above.

Usually, I just make really simple Milo brownies. Teeny-Tiny Cakes have gone all dressed up for a party. I think they look so pretty, don't you think so? Hehehe.. I absolutely adore the ribbon. Seriously, if I had $97 with me yesterday, I would have bought a life-time's supply of this pretty ribbon! Sigh... Maybe next time?

Hi all!

Here's a little info on Neapolitan Buttercream cupcakes! :D Basically, you have the option of choosing Dark Chocolate Cupcakes or Vanilla Cupcakes as the cake base. As for the buttercream frosting, they come in three flavors which are chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. If you like, you may ask me to make more of a certain buttercream flavor. For example, eight cupcakes with chocolate frosting and the other four vanilla and strawberry buttercream. :D (Altogether 12 cupcakes) Hope that's not too confusing!

I really hate not having my own computer. If you notice, I have been updating a lot less frequently these days. I'm not sure if I should or COULD save my computer. It would get fixed once a year when I was still in Uni. Now, I wonder if it's worth paying for my computer which might have lost all data on it. Sniff!! Now, I really must emphasize that I do not, I repeat, do not do especially well in piping, lettering or even drawing straight lines! :S I do give it my best always, but just a heads up for you all hehehe!! I had a large order of cupcakes with a Burberry theme. a few weeks ago. I was very happy for the experience but VERY scared of the outcome since 300 Burberry cupcakes equal to millions of lines! Eeek! XP Hehe, but it was a great experience, so, thank you Miss Ness for the order. :D

When I was still in uni, I would mooch off my housemate's Tesco's Coconut Macaroons. They were fairly cheap yet lovely and they made me feel like an old English lady hehehe... Anyhoo... I came back to Brunei and could not find anything similar ANYWHERE! I know there's a local alternative but I had it when I was like three years old so I don't know how it should look like or what it's called. I also have my doubts about Bounty Bars so that's not an option.

So, the only solution is to make some myself!!! And they come in cute bite-size cubes instead of flat macaroons. AND coated with dark chocolate... Mmm... If you're a coconut freak (LIKE ME), I really recommend these! :D

I think that Red Velvet Cupcakes are those that fall into the category of "beautiful" cupcakes and very adult, in my opinion. No cute sprinkles whatsoever. I love how RED they are. Especially when they are dressed in silver couture. ;) Anyway... these beauties are quite dense in texture, but not chewy and they taste similar to Kuih Apam which, in my opinion, is the Asian version of cupcakes (AND my favorite of all! Especially the sweet pink white ones hehe!).

The reason I named these Vanilla Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting is because of the way they look like those ice cream sundaes! Hehehe.. Now, many of us may not be familiar with cream cheese and might be slightly weirded out by its combination with Vanilla Cake! Now, now kids... not too worry. This isn't the kinda cheese that you find in your McD hamburgers! NOT that those cheese slices are bad. However, Cream Cheese that I use to frost my Vanilla Cupcakes (and Red Velvet) taste just right with cakes! Why, it even has a hint of lemon that you might even forget about cheese! :D Give it a try and you'll find out :D
