Brunei Halloween Shopping Guide

Hello Ghouls and Spooks...

As Halloween is drawing near, I can hear shrieks of panic and despair... Some of you may be organizing or attending a Halloween party and may still be without clue as to where to get your costumes!!! Here's a little guide which I hope will be helpful! :D

WHERE TO GET COSTUMES AND ACCESSORIES
-Plaza Athirah, Ground Floor (opposite the fruit kiosks). They have the widest range of costume accessories!
-Deseo in Regent Square, Kiulap
-Hokko in Kiarong has very scary masks!!!! And Hokko is the best craft store in Brunei, so get creative! :D
-Mothercare / Bebeland Kiulap have great costumes for little spooks! :D
-Little M Batu Besurat (the most awesome place to shop for costumes: variety & better prices :D )
-Cute Pack (Serusop, Kiulap, Tanjung Bunut) has great and cheap party supplies, tiaras, streamers, Venetian masks, etc.

WHERE TO GET FACEPAINTS
-Check with Stationery Shops, but I am definitely sure the book kiosk in Supa Save Mata-Mata have some awesome face paints!!!
-Hua Ho Kiulap stationery section

DECORATIONS AND FOOD
-Cute Pack Serusop/Gadong/Tanjung Bunut/
-WWW Economy Mart
-I haven't seen any halloween props anywhere in Brunei yet, BUT this is the best opportunity to show off your creativity! :D Google Halloween DIY props. Use things like cotton to create "webs". :D
-I haven't seen any halloween candy etc, but again, be creative! :D Google for ideas! :D Try making "air sirap" for blood punch, throw in some black olives to create a creepy effect. Dim the lights of course! :D
-Pip Pops is still taking Halloween orders! :D

These freshly whipped meringues taste like gooey marshmallow!! MMMMmmmm!
But when they harden up, they're just as gorgeous! Crunchy and light... MMmmmm...

note: please consume these cupcakes within 24 hours due to the nature of the frosting. :D

Please also note that the frosting contains raw egg whites. Not advisable for those with allergies, babies, toddlers and expectant mothers. :3

FAQ on pricing

Hi boys and girls! :D

One of the frequently asked questions (FAQ) that I get is why some of Pip Pops cupcakes or other goodies quite pricey. I appreciate the question. :D

When it comes to pricing, I believe that EVERYONE should be able to enjoy cupcakes, from those with limited budget to those who could splurge on all kinds of cupcakes and frostings. Cupcakes are wonderful and they make you happy! Thus, I try to set a ceiling on my pricing so that everyone can afford my cupcakes.

I always try my best to give you high quality, enticing and yummy cupcakes. In order to achieve this, I never compromise on the quality of ingredients. And I mean high quality, not simply good quality ingredients. As we all know, high quality ingredients are very limited and very expensive as they are usually imported products. Therefore, this affects the pricing that I place on my cupcakes.

I have tried many many times to find a solution to this. One of it was to mix high quality ingredients to "balance out" the cheaper ingredients (thus, lower quality). The result was, to my horror, funny tasting buttercream... bland chocolate cupcakes (oh it was brown alright, but there was nothing chocolatey about it!).... You get the idea. :D

There really is no such thing as compromising quality when it comes to baking or cooking. To produce the best, you must incorporate only the best. :D Insya Allah one day, when I have the benefit of economies of scale, I will be able to lower my prices.

FAQ on Fondant Pricing

Fondants or any other sugar art takes time (a LOTTTTTT), patience, steady hands and creativity. Sometimes, it takes me half an hour to complete each fondant :S And most of the time, I cry to myself and ask, what have I put myself into??? Hehehe.. There is nothing quick or easy about fondant or sugar art creations. :)

Hey everybody!!! Don't forget Halloween's this month! :D

Two Halloweens ago, I moved into my student house around Halloween and it was such a great opportunity to have a Halloween Party slash Housewarming. I suppose it is different from what we do here (Doa Selamat) but it was fun nonetheless. :D I think it was mostly fun because EVERYBODY made an effort to get dressed up properly! We had Devil Couple, Angel, Monster Cook, Ghost, Witch, Hippie, Sheep, Vampire, you name it! Every spook was in town! And we had awesome Halloween Decorations! My housemates and I even carved out a pumpkin! Good times. :D

I'd love to throw another Halloween Party but most of my friends are still at the other end of the world and it wont be as fun. BUTTT I still think I want to put up some Halloween Decor and maybe have small party with Halloween Cupcakes too! Will be posting Halloween Cupcakes samples soon! :D
