First Post of 2010!

Hi everybody!! Can't believe it's January again! I have a feeling that this is gonna be a good year for me. I pray that it will be! :D 2009 turned out to be an incredibly unexpected year for so many reasons. And Pip Pops is one of them!! :D

I am also happy to report that the Topsy Turvy Cake that I baked for my four cousins' birthday celebration plus New Year's Party had an amazing response! Everyone asked if it was a real, edible cake hehehe and nobody wanted to cut up the cake because they "sayang" hehehe... (until it was time to go home which was around 2.30 am!). So, I am proud to say that after 13 hours of feeling insecure and worried about my cake being heavily criticized, the whole family enjoyed the aesthetics and the taste of the 10 kilo cake! XD Well, it's THAT heavy. I assume it's ten kilos! hehehe!!!

The children were curious!

Birthday celebrants! :D

She loved it so much she hugged the cake! hehehe!

This is how the cake looks like on the inside. It is a Chocolate Layer Cake With Ganache. :D

Greeting 2010 with a cherry on top!

Hi everyone! This is my first attempt at making a fondant covered cake (which is pretty obvious! It has so many flaws hehehe!) This is a Topsy Turvy Cake but my mom has so many embarrassing names for it (like a Bootylicious Cake HAHAHA!) It took me 13 hours to finish the cake with the help of my mother, my cousin Iyah and Aunty Salmah. Thanks you guys!! WHEW!!!

What do you guys think?
This cake is about 16 inches tall and SO VERY HEAVY!! It's a moist chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling. :D I hope I get another chance to bake this cake again! :D

Congratulations Abang Zamri and Haziyah

A cousin of mine got married today and he gave me the honor of baking cupcakes to go along with the hantaran cake. These are Red Velvet Cupcakes with pink and yellow fondants and Tiffany blue initials (as requested). I think the choice of colors are simply sweet. :D

Abang Zamri and Haziyah, congratulations and here's to happily ever after. :D

Happy Birthday Amal Hazirah

I wish I had arranged the cupcakes properly to show the message but I thought I didn't have time for that as it was almost collection time when I took this photo. Nevertheless, I hope Amal Hazirah enjoyed the cupcakes and had a wonderful wonderful birthday. :D

Congratulations to UBD Graduates of 2009! :D All those tears of frustration, panic episodes, sleepless nights typing up assignments and revisions... finally paid off!! Hoorayyyy!!!

These fondants are inspired by a sample found on Flickr. I don't have the actual link as the photo was sent to me. :D

Happy Birthday Efna & Souffle!

Sorry it's really late, but I hope you had a wonderful birthday Efna! :D
I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, but paper souffle cups are so much better looking than aluminum ones!

MUFC

I had a request for MUFC's logo which at first I declined to do because I knew I would do such a horrible botched up job! :S Hehehe! I am always worried about how my cakes and frosting will turn out, and that's the simple part, let alone a detailed fondant work. Yikes! Hehehe!

But I am nonetheless thankful that the client insisted I do it for I learned a lot from the experience. It was a whole new world of fondant creation for me. I think I was actually better than I thought I'd be, though, that doesn't mean it was the best looking MU Devil fondant. LOL!! Thank you 98 for the opportunity. I appreciate the kind words and I hope to hear from you again. :D

Although I am seriously considering withdrawing fondants! Hehehe!

Here are some pictures of a little girl & boy themed fondant cupcakes. There was no specific instruction (except for balls) so I came up with "princess" and "pirate". I do hope that Darwish and Mimi like the decorations and cupcakes. :D Happy Birthday!

THANK YOU MAMA AND PAPA!

Now, I know I like to make a big thank you speech. In fact, I like giving speeches! Well, I like to TALK TALK TALK in general hahaha!! However, today I realized I forgot TWO most important people who I should REALLY thank! And that's my parents!

I'm not just saying this because they are my parents and they deserve the obligatory thank you. My parents REALLY have been extremely supportive of this small cake business of mine. So supportive that my father would actually be up at 4am with me helping with baking. He'd be there to clean up (to give me more work space.... or he simply hates clutter! hehehe!), he'd be there to keep my sanity when what I'm working out doesn't turn well (such as burnt cupcakes). My dad's also been my, er, assistant shopper (he buys the ingredients for me everytime! Poor him. He's practically in Hua Ho everyday! Hahahah!) and he has always bought me things he think I might need (like pretty new cupcakes liners, pretty boxes, stencils...). YUP. THANK YOU PAPA! :D

As for my mom, she has been my quality control unit. She would point out which cupcake is too overdressed (tacky) and which needs more schpreenkls! She's also my creative director and come up with all these amazing new ways to decorate! She really has a hand in decorating. Without my mom, my cupcakes will just look blah.

I am so incredibly thankful for their support. A lot of people think that I am wasting my time with baking and this business. But my parents have never complained and I am so grateful for that. A lot people think I cannot do a lot of things. But my mom always tells me never to say "I don't know". She always believes in learning what you don't know.

So, this post is dedicated to my beloved parents. I am offering simple fondant decorations starting today, a technique which involved a lot of money (I did not have), time, patience (and an almost broken mixer!) to learn. :D

ps I salute all bakers who decorate with fondant! Please also note that the sample fondant deco shown here (except for the teapot and cups) are not original inspirations (how I wish I'd thought of these!) I am happy to create simple fondant deco based on requests or sample pictures :D
